ASIFA-Hollywood: The International Animated Film Society
Glen Keane:
Just got off the phone with Aubry Mintz from Laguna College of Art and Design. They always have such cool shows in their on campus gallery:

This month`s volunteer of distinction is Paul Abramson. Paul is always there to help, at comic con, at the Annies, lugging boxes in the heat at Klasky Csypo. He is a film school graduate currently working as a PA in live action but with a love of all things animation.
Paul, along with Jason Jones, has just agreed to be co-lead for the
Animation Rescue Team. Paul is a good guy, a dedicated ASIFA-Hollywood volunteer and this month`s volunteer of the month.
The Power of Animation:Most times I try not to post things that other animation sites post, but this is too cool not to talk about even it other sites have already done the same.
Ryan Larkin is back and working on an animation again.
Call to Action:
Any of you that have been in the new animation center as of late may have noticed that we have been flooded by a number very large donations starting with the Spumco and Thoren donations.
Jon Reeves, Animation Archives Team Leader, has announced an Animation Sorting party for Sunday September 11th at the Animation Center (2114 W. Burbank Blvd) starting at 10 AM and running until 4 PM.
We will be determining what is in the boxes and consolidating them to make them more compact. You are invited to come out and lend a hand. Who knows who you will meet at this kind of event.

Tim Burton`s
CORPSE BRIDEDircted by Tim Burton & Mike Johnson
It all began with a grave misunderstanding . . . On the way home to his fiancee, Victor (Johnny Depp) stops to practice his wedding vows, placing his ring on a stick poking out of the ground as a joke. He gets more than he bargained for when the stick turns out to be the finger of a dead woman, and now the Corpse Bride (Helena Bonham Carter) is after him, claiming to legally be his bride and intent on showing Victor the time of his after-life.
Corpse Bride carries on in the dark, romantic tradition of Burton's classic films Edward Scissorhands and The Nightmare Before Christmas. Set in a 19th century European village, this stop-motion, animated feature follows the story of Victor (Johnny Depp), a young man who is whisked away to the underworld and wed to a mysterious Corpse Bride (Helena Bonham-Carter), while his real bride, Victoria (Emily Watson), waits bereft in the land of the living. Though life in the Land of the Dead proves to be a lot more colorful than his strict Victorian upbringing, Victor learns that there is nothing in this world, or the next, that can keep him away from his one true love. It's a tale of optimism, romance and a very lively afterlife, told in classic Tim Burton style.
Don't miss this stop motion animation extravaganza!

One of the joys of teaching is when something works out for one of your students. Jeff Price, from Brooks College, is my poster child for volunteerism. Way back on May 21st we called the
Animation Rescue Team together to pull the Terry Thoren collection out of Klasky Csypo.
Thoren MoveJeff came out to help move boxes in 103 degree heat never thinking it would get him anything more than heatstroke.

Jeff is the guy in the back on the left with his arms crossed looking proud. And well he should because he had just scored an internship with Tom Sito and
Gang of 7.
I think I have talked Jeff into writing about his internship with Tom and Tom and Dave and crew. With any luck his internship log will start showing up in these pages something next week.
Keeping Up with the BrewersA couple of days back Jerry Beck, over at Cartoon Brew, started talking about Comic Con 2006. He was marveling that he was booking a hotel room 11 months in advance.
I can do him one better. I booked my second speaker this week for the ASIFA-Hollywood slate of presentations for Comic Con 2006 (Thanks Paul). Comic Con planning is a year round activity folks.
Right now I`m looking for sketch artists to work at the ASIFA booth at Comic Con 2006. We plan on putting up a drawing table and having an animator on duty doing sketches all 4 days of the convention. Are you planning to go to Comic Con 2006? Know how to draw? We want you to draw attention to the ASIFA booth.
Report from the Front Lines:So here it is Monday morning. Another fun weekend of fighting viruses. I keep ripping out * $ @ % #
Cool Web Search $ % # ! Trojans and they are back before I am done.
- The only thing that made the weekend livable was the AFI screening of Dream on Silly Dreamer and the news that it will be out on DVD in about 6 weeks. Stay tuned for more info. This is a DVD that every animation teacher needs and every animator should want.
The list of extras is impressive including footage from the Alex screening (which was more like a wrap party for Disney 2-D feature animation) and most of the footage from the interviews. There will be a list of the Film Festivals that turned down or cancelled Dreamer screenings and there is talk of DVD launch party.
- Keep watching the skies or at least this space. Word is that ASIFA has a screening of Corpse Bride scheduled.
- This Wednesday is the ASIFA volunteer`s meeting.
August 31st
7 PM
2114 W. Burbank Blvd
Burbank, CA
This is the meeting where ASIFA happens. Things to be covered include the Archives project, the Annies, upcoming screenings, and future projects under development. There will be pizza and networking and good times.
- Tonight is my second meeting with my Cal State Fullerton History of Animation class. Looks like a good group of students, mostly Animation and illustration students and one art history student. A talented group all. Tonight it is Bray and McCay and Starewicz. I`m looking forward to it.
