In “The Wind Rises,” Jiro dreams of flying and designing beautiful airplanes. Nearsighted and unable to be a pilot, Jiro joins a Japanese engineering company, becoming one of the world¹s most innovative airplane designers. The film chronicles Jiro’s life, depicting historical events, including the 1923 Kanto Earthquake, the Great Depression, the tuberculosis epidemic and Japan¹s plunge into war.

Writer/Director Hayao Miyazaki pays tribute to Jiro Horikoshi and author Tatsuo Hori in this epic tale of love, perseverance, and the challenges of living and making choices in a turbulent world.
