ASIFA-Hollywood at WonderCon 2018

WonderCon returns to the Anaheim Convention Center the weekend of March 23 through March 25, 2018, and ASIFA-Hollywood will be there! Join us for this amazing convention filled with all the things you love: comics, movies, TV, animation, books and authors, action figures and collectibles, the Masquerade, anime screenings, portfolio review and games!

Where We’ll Be Located
We’ll be in space 1711 on the convention floor so if you’re at the event, be sure to come by and say hello to us! We’ll have information on memberships, upcoming events, screenings and the Annie Awards.

Panels
ASIFA-Hollywood will also participate in discussions and screenings at the event. Information is subject to change based on guest speaker and room availability.

1:00p.m. – 2:00p.m. Animated Effects in Live Action Productions, Friday, 3/23/18
When the word animation is used, we think of cartoons. However, the line between live action and animation has become blurred due to technological advances. Join industry professionals for a lively discussion of the most memorable animated visual effects in film and TV, and how they blend animation with live action seamlessly. Guests will include John Van Vliet (The Empire Strikes Back, Raiders of the Lost Ark, TRON), Eli Jarra (Space Jam, Ant-Man, True Detective) and Roger Kupelian (The Lord of the Rings, Cloverfield, Oblivion). 4:30p.m. – 5:30p.m. The Business of Independent Art, Friday, 3/23/18
What does a person need to think about when they venture in the market place as an independent artist? Between marketing yourself to getting the job, being independent has it’s challenges. Join Peter Emmerich, Nic Gregory, Stephen Silver, Casey Robin, Stephen Franck and David DePasquale for a candid discussion on being entrepreneurial, handling career obstacles and treating an independent art career like a business. The panel will be moderated by ASIFA-Hollywood vice president David Derks. Room: 208

5:45p.m. – 6:45p.m. The Greatest Cartoons Ever!, Friday, 3/23/18
Programmed by noted animation historian Jerry Beck and ASIFA-Hollywood executive director Frank Gladstone, this screening features the best and most notable theatrical shorts from Hollywood’s legendary golden age. Films scheduled are Tex Avery’s King Size Canary, Chuck Jones What’s Opera, Doc?, Disney’s The Band Concert, the Fleischer Superman short Magnetic Telescope. For the finale, Fleischer’s amazing 1936 two-reeler Popeye the Sailor Meets Sinbad the Sailor. Room: Arena
