THE INTERNATIONAL
ANIMATED FILM SOCIETY: ASIFA-HOLLYWOOD is a California
non-profit organization established over thirty years ago to promote and
encourage the art and craft of animation. To achieve this purpose,
ASIFA-Hollywood is dedicated to striving for the following goals:
- Support and encourage animation education
- Support the preservation and critical
evaluation of animation history
- Recognize achievement of excellence in the
art and field of animation
- Increase the public awareness of animation
- Act as a liaison to encourage the free
exchange of ideas within the animation community
- Encourage journalism documenting current
trends and activities in animation
- Encourage the social interaction of
professional and non-professional animation enthusiasts
- Encourage the development and expression
of all forms of animation
We sponsor the following
programs and projects:
The Annie Awards
Since 1972, ASIFA-Hollywood has hosted an annual awards ceremony to honor
individuals who have make significant contributions to the art of animation.
Originally designed to honor the lifetime achievements of legendary veterans
of the field, the Annie Awards are now awarded in competition for the year's
best animation efforts, recognizing outstanding productions in feature
films, videos, television programs, commercials, animated interactive
productions, as well as individual achievement by artists, writers and voice
talent. Members participate in the nomination process and final voting. The
Annie Awards are regarded as animation's highest honor, and the ceremony is
one of ASIFA-Hollywood's most prestigious and elegant events. To visit the
Annie Awards website, click here.
ASIFA-Hollywood Animation Archive
The ASIFA Archives acts as a repository for the papers, production
materials, publications and artwork of animation artists, organizations and
studios, making them available to scholars, journalists and filmmakers.

Screenings
Each month we have screenings of current and classic animation. Many films
are screened in 35mm, 16mm and state of the art digital video projection in
our screening room at the American Film
Institute. Often the programs contain films you cannot
see anywhere. Rare animated features, anime, tributes to individual animators,
themed collections of Hollywood cartoons, the best of ASIFA-EAST, Ottawa,
and other international festivals. ASIFA-Hollywood's screenings are the talk
of the town!
Special Events
Monthly events are a regular feature for members. Cel Sales, Membership
meetings, Book signings, Annie Award screenings and other special events
happen each month. Network with others in the field.
The Stephen Bosustow and Art Babbitt/Education Endowment Funds
Established in memory of two of animation's greatest figures, both the
Bosustow and Babbitt endowments were created to fund programs in support of
animation education. Currently, these funds are used to provide financial
awards to qualified students who are pursuing studies in the field of
animation.
Members' Events
Numerous events for the membership include: Screenings, eclectic
collections of cartoons shown every month; "An Evening With..." a series of
programs focusing on the people behind the scenes; as well as periodic
special screenings, seminars, tributes to animation pioneers, and
