You may have recently received an email notice explaining that your membership has expired or is about to, and that it is time to renew. (If you are a corporate sponsored member, your studio is probably compiling its roster of new and returning enrollees right now.) Even if you have not received a renewal notice, please check your membership status, email and postal addresses (log in and check your account). If you are not on the list as a current pro-level member or your address is not correct, when we send the membership roster to the “For Your Consideration” mailing houses, you will not get the materials (DVD screeners, screening invitations and calendars, etc.).
There are many advantages to being a member. There are screenings, events, festivals, special offers, networking and educational opportunities, and, of course, the Annie Awards. However, perhaps the most important reason to be a member is the support for our community; continuing our effort to improve, sustain and grow the world’s foremost professional animation organization, dedicated to promoting the art of animation and celebrating the people who create it.
So it’s not just getting a screener, or the opportunity for you and your family to see an animated feature, or attend a special event, or take advantage of one discount or another. Rather, it is the knowledge that you are part of a wider and more encompassing community, with a history that is important and a culture that you are proud of and want to see flourish, now and into the future. Membership in ASIFA-Hollywood is not a selfish act — it is a selfless one, acknowledging the community you work in and love.
Remember, in order to qualify to participate in this year’s Annie Award ballot, you must be registered and qualified as a pro-level member by November 5th.
