Women In Animation

ONE of WIA’s most active Special Interest Groups is the WRITER’S ROUND TABLE. Energetically led by Bret Wilson, writers of all ages and experience levels present their work for helpful feedback. Many professional writers have also shared their experience and knowledge with the group.

Over the years, it has been often observed that on most writing staffs, men usually outnumber women. There is one show that presents a significant exception: the wildly successful Disney Junior show “Sofia The First”.

ALL FOUR women on the “Sofia” staff will talk about their experiences at our October 24th General Meeting: “WOMEN WRITE ROYAL”.

Panelists will include:

  • Bret Wilson (Moderator) Publicist, Walt Disney Studios, Marketing Consultant
  • Laurie Israel and Rachel Ruderman, HBO Family Channel, Oxygen, Cartoon Network, Walt Disney TV Animation
  • Erica Rothschild, MTV, Comedy Central, 20th Century Fox, Universal Studios, The London Times, Walt Disney TV Animation
  • Krista Tucker, Universal Animation Studios, Walt Disney TV Animation

How do you come up with stories set in the alternate universe of a country ruled by kings and queens? How does magic work? What are Disney’s rules regarding who wins at the end? How has studio management helped us imagine life in a monarchical state?

If you are interested in any of these questions – or have a few of your own – don’t miss this opportunity to meet and work with other members of our active writer’s community, and above all, have a great time.

Join WIA on Thursday, October 24th
