ASIFA Goals and Missions
The world’s first and foremost professional organization dedicated to promoting the Art of Animation and celebrating the people who create it.
ASIFA-Hollywood is the heart of the animation world, uniting the global animation community to celebrate excellence, preserve animation history, as well as fostering education and innovation forward.
ASIFA-Hollywood is the Southern California chapter of the Association Internationale du Film D’Animation (ASIFA) which was founded in 1957 and chartered by UNESCO in 1960. ASIFA-Hollywood champions the art of animation, promotes international understanding, and fosters goodwill through the art form. As the largest ASIFA chapter worldwide, we operate independently through membership dues and revenue from our vibrant events and projects. As the largest ASIFA chapter with over 3,100 members, our organization continues to adapt to meet the evolving needs of the animation community.

The Annie Awards
Established by June Foray in 1972, the Annie Awards have become animation’s highest honor. The Annies are dedicated to celebrating distinguished members of our community, past and present, and to recognize the best animated productions of the year, both individual and group achievements.
Future Goal: A second ceremony is in discussion! This will allow us to award more categories to honor artists who have gone unrecognized.
Membership Events and Screenings
We host a packed calendar of events throughout the year, including monthly screenings, retrospectives, lectures, and workshops. ASIFA-Hollywood is a fixture at San Diego Comic-Con, WonderCon, Lightbox Expo, OIAF, and Anime Expo, and we sponsor animation festivals and community events.
Future Goal: Build a dedicated screening room with weekly in-person member programming designed to bring the animation community together.
Animation Archive
The ASIFA-Hollywood Animation Archive’s feature film materials are located at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and contains over 40 years of materials from theatrical and broadcast animation, including films, storyboards, sketches, photographs, concept art, and production artwork.
Future Goal: Continue to add materials to our AMPAS collection as well as inventory, restore and curate our vast collection of broadcast artwork, eventually making it available for historic research, and presentation.
Animation Preservation
Our Animation Preservation Project identifies, restores, and preserves films at risk of disappearing while raising awareness about the importance of preservation of our art form’s history.
Future Goal: With so many films that need preservation, we must continue this important work before these films are lost forever!
Animation Educator Forum
The AEF brings together professional instructors working to establish animation education standards in the U.S. and internationally. The AEF also serves as a platform to connect, share resources and extend the scholastic community (both in-person and online). ASIFA-Hollywood awards over $80,000 annually in scholarships and grants for students and faculty worldwide.
Future Goal: Increase the number of student scholarships and faculty grants.
Animation Aid Foundation
ASIFA-Hollywood supports community members in need. Our Animation Aid Foundation continues this mission, providing assistance to artists during difficult times.
Future Goal: Expand aid to help more members during challenging periods.
