Animation at the American Cinematheque in April

Saturday, April 9 – 7:30p.m. Advanced Screening of the new JUNGLE BOOK. This live-action reimagining of the 1967 animated favorite, directed by Jon Favreau, uses state-of-the-art digital imagery to bring an entire Indian jungle to a Los Angeles soundstage. An all-star cast, including Idris Elba, Bill Murray, Ben Kingsley, Scarlett Johansson and Christopher Walken supplies the voices of the creatures Mowgli (Neel Sethi) meets along the way. Richard M. Sherman, who cowrote music for the Disney original, returns to pen some new songs for this adventure. This event is a fundraiser for the Aero Theatre with a suggested donation of $15 per person.


Sunday, April 24 3:00 p.m. FANTASTIC MR. FOX. Director Wes Anderson’s animated film is an adaptation of Roald Dahl’s classic children’s book. Mr. and Mrs. Fox live an idyllic home life, but the bucolic existence proves too much for Mr. Fox. When he slips back into his old ways as a sneaky chicken thief, he ends up endangering the whole animal community. Discussion following with Wally Wolodarsky, the voice of Kylie.
