ASIFA-Hollywood and Animation Educators Forum at CTN animation eXpo

The CTN animation eXpo
November 21-24, 2019
Burbank Convention Center

The theme this year is “Transformations” shedding a light on growth in both the hard and soft skills of being an animation artist and a human being. We get swept away in the details on ‘how’ but not enough about ‘why’, though it is the “why” is what makes what we do so remarkable.

ASIFA-Hollywood’s Animation Educators Forum will present at the CTN eXpo “Defining Animation in a Period of Hyper-Change.”

Saturday, November 23, 11:00 a.m. Academy 6

Defining what animation is has always been a topic of intense discussion among scholars and practitioners alike. In an age of rapid technological change, an increasing number of “animated films,” like the digital remake of The Lion King, are promoted as live-action films. Join us in a discussion of how these changes affect animation education and the very idea of what it means to be an animator.

Our panelists will include:
Quique Rivera, Owner, Acho Studio, Los Angeles
Sari Gennis, Independent Animator & Visual Effects Artist
Jason MacLeod, Business Representative, The Animation Guild
Bill Kroyer, Professor & Director of Digital Arts, Chapman University
Moderated by Harvey Deneroff, AEF Steering Committee Chair
