Animation Legends Speak: Animators Celebrate Disney Anniversaries

It’s SDCC’s 50th, but anniversaries abound at Disney, too! Released in 1959, It’s Sleeping Beauty’s 60th, 1989’s The Little Mermaid’s 30th, and 1994’s The Lion King’s 25th, as well as Tarzan’s 20th and The Princess and the Frog’s 10th! We gather together talented artists integral to creating these animated classics old and new to talk about their experience, memories, and the influence and importance these feature have in the history and future of film. Scheduled to appear: Floyd Norman (animator: Sleeping Beauty, Disney Legend) Jane Baer (animator: Sleeping Beauty, Founder: Baer Animation) Kathy Zielinksi (animator: The Little Mermaid) Nik Ranieri (animator: The Little Mermaid, The Princess and the Frog) and Dave Bossert (visual effects animator: The Lion King, The Little Mermaid). moderated by Leslie Combemale (ASIFA-Hollywood, CinemaSiren.com).

Monetizing Digital Comics

Doug Lefler (Inventor of digital comics format Scrollon and creator of Story Attic) and Tom Akel (CCO Graphite) will discuss what has and hasn’t worked in the past, and what looks promising for the future. Joined by Nick Urbom (Founder/CEO of the Infinity Festival) and Michael Son (Tapas web-comics Editor in Chief) they will review paid downloads, subscription models, merchandising, the potential for selling your comic for film or TV and value of giving comics away for free. Digital comics distribution is the most cost effective way to get your material in front of a worldwide audience. Someone will create a way to exploit this market and change the comics industry forever. Our free discussion of ideas and Q&A session moderated by David Derks (ASIFA-Hollywood) and Dane Allan Smith (VP, The Third Floor Visualization Studio) is intended to increase the chances of that person being someone on our panel, or in our audience! Worst Cartoons Ever! Hosted by Jerry Beck

For the 17th year in a row, esteemed animation historian Jerry Beck (CartoonResearch.com) and ASIFA-Hollywood will once again foist upon the Con a new selection of the most terribly written, ugliest drawn and unintentionally funniest animated films ever made. All for real, all drawn from TV\’s ancient golden age, all hilariously awful! Rarely seen – and you\’ll soon understand why. Cartoons include Con favorites Mighty Mr. Titan (the physical fitness superhero in a form fitting costume a little too tight for comfort) and Johnny Cypher In Dimension Zero (worst. anime. ever.). This year\’s presentation will be one for the history books. You\’ve been officially warned!
