Animation Educators Forum Animation Salon invites ASIFA-Hollywood Members to Disability: A Love Story screening and discussion with filmmaker Sheila Sofian
April 7, 2024 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm
Disabled: A Love Story is a 13-minute animated documentary that explores the relationship and struggles of Terry, who suffers from multiple sclerosis, and her husband Jon, who has cared for her since her diagnosis. Using TV Paint to illustrate the difficulties they face, filmmaker Sheila M. Sofian combines literal and abstract imagery to express the physical and emotional toll the disease has taken on their relationship.
A 2022 AEF Faculty Grant awardee, Sheila M. Sofian is a Professor and Director of Expanded Animation Research + Practice MFA Program, School of Cinematic Arts at the University of Southern California.
In this Salon, she will discuss the process of making the film as well as the role that animation can play in creating empathy in documentary filmmaking.
