BURBANK, CA (June 1, 2022) – The Board of Directors for ASIFA-Hollywood announced today that its 50th Annual Annie Awards™ recognizing the year’s best in the field of animation will return to a live ceremony on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at UCLA’s Royce Hall, Los Angeles, CA. A list of ceremony Deadlines, Rules & Categories, and the ‘Call for Entries’ will be announced and available on the Annies website (www.annieawards.org) on Monday, September 12, 2022.
The Annie Awards™ covers 37 categories and include Best Animated Feature, Best Animated Feature-Independent, Special Productions, Sponsored Films, Short Subjects, Student Films and Outstanding Individual Achievements, as well as the honorary Juried Awards.

(August 16, 2021) – ASIFA-Hollywood announced today that it will begin accepting recommendations for this year’s Juried Award nominations honoring career achievement and exceptional contributions to animation. Applications may be submitted now through Tuesday, November 16, 2021 via email at info@asifa-hollywood.org or mailed to the ASIFA-Hollywood offices at 2416 W. Victory Blvd., #245, Burbank, CA 91506. The Juried Award recipients will be honored during the 49th Annie Awards™ set for Saturday, February 26, 2022 at UCLA’s Royce Hall.
The Board of Directors of ASIFA-Hollywood shall select by a two-thirds (2/3) majority vote, recipients for each of the Juried Award categories listed below. At its discretion, the Board of Directors may elect not to give an award in any category.
“The Winsor McCay Awards were the first lifetime achievement Annies. The other categories, the June Foray, Ub Iwerks, Special Achievement and Certificate of Merit Awards, have been added over time,” remarked Frank Gladstone, Annie Awards executive producer. “The juried categories have always been, and remain today, a most important and significant part of each year’s honors.”

Winsor McCay Award in recognition of lifetime or career contributions to the art of animation in producing, directing, animating, design, writing, voice acting, sound technical influence, music, education, or for other endeavors which exhibit outstanding contributions to excellence in animation;
June Foray Award to an individual who has made a significant and benevolent or charitable impact on the art and industry of animation;
Ub Iwerks Award to an individual or company for a technical advancement that has made a significant impact on the art or industry of animation;
Special Achievement Award may be given to an individual, individuals or a company for unique and significant achievement made between January 1, 2021 and December 31, 2021, not recognized by other Annie Award categories;

BURBANK, Calif. (August 11, 2021) – ASIFA-Hollywood has announced its ‘Call for Judges’ for the 49th Annie Awards™. Applicants must have an established career in animation and exemplary professional credentials in at least one of the Annie Award categories. Individuals in the animation community who are interested in being a nomination committee judge, visit the Application page. If you fulfill the professional career and credential requirements we invite you to apply. The nomination process remains a significant and fundamental part of assuring that the Annie election process is fair and representative.
Annie Judge candidates do not have to be members of ASIFA-Hollywood but, whether they have applied in the past or are applying for the first time, need to submit a new application. Filling out the application will put you on our list of nomination judge candidates, but will not guarantee you a committee position. If, however, you are selected, you must be prepared to spend a few hours in November, reviewing your committee’s submissions online and then meeting with your committee in person or online for the final nominee selection. You, your fellow judges and your committee chair will determine when that meeting will take place.
In our increasing efforts to include under-represented members of our community, we are also reaching out to animation organizations including, among others, Women In Animation, Black N’ Animated, LXiA (LatinX in Animation) and the Native American Barcid Foundation.

(August 9, 2021) – The official kick-off to Awards Season begins today as the International Animated Film Society, ASIFA-Hollywood, announces its ‘Call for Entries’ for the 49th Annual Annie Awards™. Honoring excellence in the field of animation, the 49th Annual Annie Awards™ will be presented in 36 categories including Animated Feature, Animated Feature-Independent, TV/Media Production, Sponsored Production, Short Subject, and Student Film, as well as Achievement and Honorary awards. The ceremony will be held on Saturday, February 26, 2022, at UCLA’s Royce Hall.
Changes to this year’s rules include, the definition of episodes in the TV/Media categories; limits to the number of team members in the achievement, direction and student film categories; and clip content clarification.

Now through September 21, 2021, ASIFA-Hollywood is also conducting the 49th Annual Annie Awards™ Call for Nominating Committee Judges. This year’s Best Animated Feature nominations include: Onward (Pixar Animation Studios), Soul (Pixar Animation Studios), The Croods: A New Age (DreamWorks Animation), The Willoughbys (Netflix Presents A BRON Animation Production in association with Creative Wealth Media) and Trolls World Tour (DreamWorks Animation).

The Winsor McCay Award for career contributions to the art of animation are being presented to three recipients – Willie Ito, animation designer whose career began at Warner Bros., then for 20 years at Hanna Barbera and eventually at Disney TV; Posthumously to Sue Nichols, one of the few women who had a voice in the development of classics like Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Lion King, Mulan and Brave, and Bruce Smith, Influential character animator, director, and producer of both feature films Bebe’s Kids, shorts Hair Love and the ground breaking television series, The Proud Family.
The June Foray Award for significant and benevolent or charitable impact on the art and industry of animation will be awarded to animator and art director, Daisuke “Dice” Tsutsumi for his work initiating the Totoro Forest Project as well as Sketchtravel, a sketchbook passed from one artist to another through 12 countries over more than 4 years, benefitting charities that the participating artists determine. Details are currently in the planning stages. As ceremony information becomes available, the Annie Awards™ official website will be updated. “One particular advantage of this year’s virtual event is the participation of our international members – artists, animators and filmmakers – who will be on hand for the first time to celebrate this year’s honorees, nominees and winners,” said Jerry Beck, president, ASIFA-Hollywood.
“The decision to go virtual was difficult, but we feel it is the best way to share this year’s animation talent across broadcast and feature productions without the fear of endangering the hundreds of guests who gather each spring to celebrate animation’s best,” said Sue Shakespeare, vice-president, ASIFA-Hollywood.

(December 5, 2018) – The International Animated Film Society, ASIFA-Hollywood is honored to announce that Annecy International Animation Film Festival has officially become a festival partner with the Annie Awards™. Also joining the Annie Awards’ festival partnership is Ottawa, Hiroshima and Zagreb festivals. Annecy was created in 1960 and takes place at the beginning of June in the town of Annecy, France.
As part of these partnerships, ASIFA-Hollywood has allowed the festivals’ grand prize winners to submit their work for Annie Award™ consideration at no charge. This year, there are 10 festival grand prize winners who have submitted for an Annie Award™. The hope is that these festival partnerships will help to expand the scope of the Annie Awards™ internationally.
When asked about this festival initiative, Frank Gladstone, ASIFA-Hollywood’s executive director remarked, “For years, we have been trying to enlarge the scope of the Annie Awards to include more international productions.
