Rogue Animator: An In-Person Tribute to Ralph Bakshi

On March 27 and 28, 2015, 7:30 p.m., the American Cinematheque in conjunction with the USC School of Cinematic Arts presents Rogue Animator: An In-Person Tribute to Ralph Bakshi.

Writer-director-producer Ralph Bakshi’s legendary and often controversial animation career spans an astounding 50 years. He opened the doors to animation addressing adult situations, then tapped into the zeitgeist of the mid-’70s and ’80s wave of interest in sci-fi fantasy and pop culture. Bakshi also helped to re-invent television cartoons with “The New Adventures of Mighty Mouse,” a precursor for much of today’s irreverent fare. Now a noted painter, Mr. Bakshi will be on hand at all screenings to discuss his animated films.

March 27th Double Feature: HEAVY TRAFFIC / AMERICAN POP

Discussion between films with Mr. Bakshi, who will also present a clip from his new film,
“Last Days of Coney Island.”

March 28th Double Feature: LORD OF THE RINGS / WIZARDS
