The American Cinematheque Presents Stop Motion Masterpieces by Jiří Trnka
Jiří Trnka and Miloš Makovec’s adaptation of The Emperor’s Nightingale (1948), a classic Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale about a Chinese emperor entranced by the song of a mechanical nightingale is an enchanting animated jewel box awash in hallucinatory storybook imagery. Program includes the animated shorts The Two Frosts (1954, 12 min. Dir. Jiří Trnka) and Song of the Prairie (1949, 20 min. Dir. Jiří Trnka).
