Throwback Thursday #TBT: The Iron Giant Reunion

Back in 2009, ASIFA-Hollywood hosted a 10-year reunion with the crew of the animated classic The Iron Giant. Moderated by Tom Sito, the event took place at Warner Bros. Studio to a full house, and included the film’s writer and director Brad Bird, background artist Anne Guenther, art director Alan Bodner, lead animator Steve Markowski, and Scott Johnston who created the ToonShader software for the film. The panel was moderated by Tom Sito.

“The Iron Giant is one of those rare films that flawlessly merged CG with traditional animation and represented superior storytelling,” said ASIFA-Hollywood Vice-President Tom Sito. “ASIFA-Hollywood wanted to showcase the individuals who made the iconic film, and the event was extra-special with a rare appearance by Brad Bird.”

Although the film didn’t do big business at the box office, it became an instant classic and won the Annie Award for best animated film that year. Brad Bird went on to receive two Academy Awards after the release of the film for The Incredibles and Ratatouille, and directed the live action film Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.
