ASIFA-Hollywood and Animation Educators Forum at CTN animation eXpo
The CTN animation eXpo November 21-24, 2019 Burbank Convention Center
The theme this year is “Transformations” shedding a light on growth in both the hard and soft skills of being an animation artist and a human being. We get swept away in the details on ‘how’ but not enough about ‘why’, though it is the “why” is what makes what we do so remarkable.
While at the eXpo, please stop by the ASIFA Booth B09 to say ‘hello’ and learn more about our growing organization and also join us for…
ASIFA-Hollywood’s Animation Educators Forum will present at the CTN eXpo “Defining Animation in a Period of Hyper-Change.”
Saturday, November 23, 11:00 a.m. Academy 6
Defining what animation is has always been a topic of intense discussion among scholars and practitioners alike. In an age of rapid technological change, an increasing number of “animated films,” like the digital remake of The Lion King, are promoted as live-action films. Join us in a discussion of how these changes affect animation education and the very idea of what it means to be an animator.
Our panelists will include: Quique Rivera, Owner, Acho Studio, Los Angeles Sari Gennis, Independent Animator & Visual Effects Artist Jason MacLeod, Business Representative, The Animation Guild Bill Kroyer, Professor & Director of Digital Arts, Chapman University Moderated by Harvey Deneroff, AEF Steering Committee Chair

For this year’s gathering, Birds of a Feather will be wading into the tricky territory of intellectual property rights with The Instructor and the Institution – Intellectual Property in the Current Educational Model. OuThe discussion will touch such topics as academic freedom, ownership of a course syllabus and the wide range of factors associated with online usage. As always, this is primarily a group conversation so all experiences, concerns and questions will be most welcome.

How Can Current Animation Teaching Approaches Be Applied to the New Media of VR and Games?

The new media of Virtual Reality and Video Games have emerged at the forefront, and animation is an essential element of both. Join us as we discuss how educators can apply reliable and time-tested methods to prepare students for creating content in these delivery media.
